VOLUNTEER INFORMATION

Volunteers are an essential part of the operation of INAC and an important link to the community. To enable and encourage volunteer participation, INAC offers training, guidance and fellowship. Volunteering at INAC is both fun and rewarding.

To volunteer, please call 308-468-5282 for more information.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Volunteer Coordinator

Need a dependable person to help recruit, schedule volunteers and maintain database on current volunteers.

Naturalists

This is a great opportunity for future teachers, environmental studies students, and retired individuals. But you do not need to be a natural science expert or an experienced teacher to work with children. You simply need to enjoy the outdoors, have a desire to learn and be willing to share your time and knowledge.

A free training program consists of indoor lectures and outdoor explorations. New recruits observe experienced naturalists, and then lead at least 5 programs per year.

Crane Tour Guides

Guiding opportunities exist for those who have an interest in cranes, like public speaking, do not mind early morning and evening hours and the cold! A free training program helps you become a "crane expert"

Visitor Services Assistants

Need dependable people to man gift shop and admissions desks. Weekday and weekend hours are available.

Tasks include:

  • Greeting and talking with public
  • Provide information to public on upcoming events
  • Work with gift shop manager
  • Help customers with purchases
  • Help with pricing and stocking gift shop
  • Answer phones and take reservations during crane season

Gardeners/Groundskeepers

Help plant and maintain INAC native plant gardens.

Adopt-a-Trail Volunteers

Individuals or groups can adopt a trail to walk weekly, note maintenance needs and help with trail maintenance

Research Assistants

Work will vary from counting bird nests for piping plovers and least terns to whooper watch.

Special Events

People are needed to do various jobs from planning to directing traffic.
